Daytrading Machine - some thoughts

Totally Awesome Computers
(801) 293-0909 - ask for Dell, the owner - has a big attitude!
(801) 293-0791 - fax - you fax him what you want and he'll assemble
and configure. He'll order any part you want and will give it to you
$5 cheaper than any place you can find on the interent, without the
shipping charges for each component. pricewatch.com

They've been in business for 7 years at the same location.
3 year warranty on parts
Lifetime warranty on service and labor.
He will become very irrate if you request cheap components - cause
he doesn't want to lose money on the warranty/labor/service.

If you buy a monitor from him (ATI 5P+) and it goes bad after a few
years, you bring the monitor in and leave 5 minutes later with
a brand new monitor - no questions asked. He's done his own surveys
among customers - ATI side by side with Iiyama. ATI won.

Case: I will go with the SuperMicro. I've looked at Price Watch
and supermicro web site and see so many to choose from.
For my specific machine, how many watts is desirable? You don't think the full tower is over kill for what I need it for?
What would your choice be among the MID TOWERS?

SC701-A ATX / 235W; 3 x 5.25 front bays, 2 x 3.5 front bays
1 or 3 X 3.5 internal bays = $87 -----Mid Tower

SC701-A ATX/ 250W = $100 S

SC701-S ATX/ 300W = $120

SC 750-A ATX/300W; 6 X 5.25 ext; 1 X 3.5 ext; 2 X 3.5 internal;
FULL TOWER --- $169

SC 750-S Server Full Tower/300W; 6 X 5.25 ext with slide rails; 1 x 3.5 ext bay; 2 X 3.5 internal bays.

Software: I use the Castle Kill Key - requires 200Mhz and 64 Ram
(but I've been using a 133mhz and 32EDO ram for two years with no problems.) castleonline.com Level II definately!
Runs on Win '95 or NT.

My chart/TA software is Tradewinds fed by BMI cable data.
This requires a minumum of 486 computer and 16 edo ram. No biggie.
I'm such a real time daytrader that I don't save any data at the
end of the day, so I don't need any backups.

Multimonitor Graphics Card: I've researched this to no end.
I choose one card, rather than going with Win '98/several cards so that I don't have to use up all my computer slots. ColorGraphics
uses 16 SGRAM with refresh rate of 100mhz. Cost is $700.
This is more than adequate for daytrading. If I was a CAD user
I would opt for the STB or Appian.

Monitors: I don't like looking at anything smaller than a 17".
Yes, 19 and 21" would be nice but pricy. Better screen realestate/price bargain for several 17" monitors and multimonitor card. I run my programs at 800X600 resolution. I don't like to squint
when monitoring level II on several stocks at a time.

My four monitors: They will be full of Kill Key's for all the stocks
I'm looking at or positioned in, one monitor will be for searching
the net for news and research. This is the advantage for having
multiple monitors - I'm not blinded to level II when going to a web page. I can't tell you how costly this has been both in potential
money that could have bee made and money actually lost when being blind for a few minutes
to my stocks.

Will consider the PII 300.

This is an awesome thread.
