Re: Bluetooth

Interesting.

Definitely many potential applications . . . . . . but nothing of a killer nature imho.

What kinds of things do you see Bluetooth being used for? The example in the article (reading email arriving on your notebook computer with your mobile phone) seemed like a stretch. Same flavor as videoconferencing hypesters casting about for uses of that technology (grandma-grandkids application is a favorite).

On the topic of wireless access, here's something that I've contemplated doing.

1. Rent 50 sq. ft of office space (maybe a closet) near the beach, and a leased line. That would cost around $350 per month.

2. Equip my closet with a gateway server, connected to the leased line. Equip server with wireless LAN transceiver.

3. Equip my notebook computer with wireless LAN tranceiver. Voila! The entire beach is now my office, and I have high bandwidth, unmetered Net access from my notebook within wireless range of my server. These wireless LAN doohickies claim line-of-sight ranges up to a half mile. I could be connected on the beach, at any of the local cafes, park bench, friend's condo, bookstore ... you name it.

Wow, that sounds really good! I think I just talked myself into it. <GG>

God bless,
PX
