Big deal for zoran
Business Wire ZORAN'S DIGITAL AUDIO PROCESSOR SELECTED BY ONE OF CHINA'S LARGEST HOME AUDIO/VIDEO MANUFACTURERS; SHINCO'S FIRST DOLBY DIGITAL RECEIVER BASED ON ZORAN DSP BUSINESS EDITORS/TECHNICAL WRITERS
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 1998--Zoran Corporation (NASDAQ:ZRAN.O), the world's leading supplier of Digital Audio Processors, announced today that Jiangsu Shinco Electronics Group, one of China's largest home audio and video OEMs, has selected the Zoran ZR38600 Digital Audio Processor for use in a new Dolby Digital(R) (AC-3) receiver designed to provide VCD and DVD player owners with high audio quality sound reproduction, along with enhanced playback features. Shipments of the new A/V receiver will start late summer. Current Shinco A/V receiver models provide Dolby ProLogic(R), regular stereo, and mono decoding capabilities. Zoran's Digital Audio Processor adds the theater listening experience of Dolby Digital, along with the excitement of Sample Rate Systems(tm) "Music Modes", to Shinco's new A/V receiver product line. These Music Modes, which are part of the long list of Silicon Software(tm) programs offered to OEMs who select Zoran Digital Audio Processors, allow the listener to hear standard stereo source material through 5 speakers by recreating the acoustic environments of a concert hall, stadium and jazz club. In addition, a "natural mode" is provided that uses the "phase differences" found in all stereo music content to "fill the room with sound." The Zoran ZR38600 also brings to the new Shinco A/V receiver Dolby ProLogic surround decoding, for use with the extensive selection of Dolby ProLogic encoded content found on thousands of VCD titles. This feature, which creates 4 channels of audio from the two ProLogic encoded channels, is also required for playback of many DVD's with older sound tracks. Thus, the new Shinco receiver, with both Dolby ProLogic and Dolby Digital decoding, serves as the bridge between the over 35 million VCD players currently in use in China and the new DVD players just becoming available. For those consumers with VCD players wishing to enjoy the exciting audio features made possible by the Zoran ZR38600, both before and after upgrading to the new DVD format, it's the ideal solution. "Although we have offered ProLogic receivers in the past, this is the first time we offered Dolby Digital AC-3 features. We are very pleased with the excellent support Zoran provided during the development phase of our new line of Dolby Digital Decoder/Amplifiers and Receivers," said Patrick Tam, Shinco's General Manager of Engineering (Hong Kong). "The quick response of Zoran's product support team enabled us to beat our very aggressive product introduction schedule." "We are very gratified to have the Zoran ZR38600 Digital Audio Processor selected for Dolby Digital decoding and other audio signal processing tasks in Shinco's first Dolby Digital receiver," said Paul Goldberg, vice president, Audio Products, for Zoran, "We look forward to supporting Shinco in their development of other home audio and DVD related products."
