I'm not an accountant, and only an inexperienced investor, so somebody else will have to confirm/fill in the details. As I understand it, it's all related to short term (<12mos) / mid term (12 mos - 18 mos) / and long term (>18 mos) gains (how long you've held the stock), and also your base tax bracket. Depending on these factors, it could vary anywhere from about 10% to 36%. Mark N.
