New Board Member Brings Extensive Experience in Carbohydrate Science
BOSTON, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- SafeScience, Inc., (Nasdaq: SAFS) today announced that it has expanded its Scientific Advisory Board with the addition of Zbigniew J. Witczak, Ph.D. Dr. Witczak is currently an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.

The addition of Dr. Witczak to the Scientific Advisory Board is one of several steps SafeScience has recently taken in expanding its technological resources to build new products for marketing under the SafeScience(R) world brand. Earlier this month, SafeScience signed an agreement with MIGAL Galilee Technology Center (MIGAL) in Israel to become the first SafeScience Institute. Under the agreement, MIGAL will use its extensive resources and technology to develop products and industrial processes naturally derived under the SafeScience(R) world brand. The company has also announced a partnership with Dominion BioSciences to develop and market its non-toxic consumer pest control products under the SafeScience(R) brand.
Dr. Witczak was formerly a Senior Research Chemist at A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company. He consults for several respected companies in the industry, including Proctor & Gamble Pharmaceuticals and the Grain Processing Corporation Research Center. Dr. Witczak was an Editor of Marcel Dekker's Carbohydrates in Drug Design and a member of the Editorial Board for Journal of Carbohydrate Chemistry and is currently Executive Secretary, Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry, American Chemical Society. He has also been honored with several awards reflecting his work in the area of carbohydrate research, including the John S. Burlew, Connecticut Valley Section Award of American Chemical Society for outstanding research contribution to carbohydrate chemistry. Dr. Witczak received his M.S. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Lodz in Poland and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry of Natural Products also from the University of Lodz.
