The reason IMO this is morally equivalent to bribery is that it says to the reviewer: "The more you hype this product in your review, the more money you make. Criticize the product and you get nothing."

The following adjectives apply to such an arrangement: sleazy, immoral, unethical, dishonest. IMO.

And I think MS management agrees, otherwise they would have disclosed the arrangement as they should have at the time.

And it is not true that they had to pay in options. They could have given stock outright, but that would have been far less profitable to the reviewers and probably harder to cover up. And I don't even buy the idea that they didn't have the cash. How much cash are we talking about? Fifty grand, a hundred? Just to try out the Wand and write what amounts to a magazine article about it? Give me a break!

They will a long time living this down. As an owner of the company, I'm real disappointed in the hired help.
