Siebel/Cisco revisited.

I've been in touch with a few people, and others have sent me e-mail about the rumored Siebel/Cisco contretemps. Here's what I've been able to piece together.

-the party line at Cisco is "no comment", so getting the real information is like pulling teeth
-Cisco was taken off Siebel's website at Cisco's request, because they no longer considered themselves "referenceable". They seem to be back on the website in a limited way, which probably means Siebel did some heroic account management (or waved a contractual stick)
-Cisco is reviewing their current SFA implementation, and talking to other SFA vendors (at least two I know of). It's not clear if they have decided to go on to Siebel 98, or stay with Siebel at all

At this point I'm quite sure that Cisco is not happy with their SFA implementation. What I have not been able to determine is:
-why Cisco is unhappy in the first place (process issues, product issues, or expectations/performance mismatch)
-whether Cisco is serious when looking at alternatives, or if this is a negotiating ploy

If Siebel continues at Cisco they deserve credit for retaining the account.

Thanks to all the people who provided background.
