TEQUESTA, Fla., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Saf T Lok today issued the following:
The families of shooting victims, and child safety organizations from around the nation, gathered together on Monday, May 19, 1998 to express the importance of the city's Int. No. 69, requiring all pistols and revolvers sold in the City of New York to be equipped with a safety lock.
The bill, that was signed into law by Mayor Giuliani, is now being dubbed "Christopher's Law." Among those present at the signing were the parents of Christopher Murphy, the 11-year old son of two New York City police officers, who was accidentally shot to death by a young neighbor on Staten Island. The law also received praise from Sarah Brady, founder of Handgun Control, Inc.
"This can easily save some 1,500 young lives," said City Councilman, Sheldon Leffler. He also noted that gun injuries are the fourth leading cause of accidental death among children ages 5 through 14. Warren Rothstein, President of D & W Enterprises, commended the New York City Council for taking action on its obvious concern for children's safety.
Adding to the enforcement of this bill, the New York State Assembly passed the "Children's Weapon Accident Prevention Act" which makes "criminally negligent storage of a weapon a felony in the state of New York" and that no weapon may be sold in the state of New York without a "gun locking device."
When asked how this news, coupled with the gun lock legislation pending in the states of Connecticut and New Jersey, will affect his business, Mr. Rothstein felt confident in his ability to keep up with the demand. D & W Enterprises is the national distributor for the Saf T Lok (Nasdaq: LOCK) gun locks. These locks are unique in the fact that they are the only locks that can safely be used on a loaded firearm.
