posted on the 19th. K Mart. On the 20th K Mart got an upgrade and gained a $1.00

I missed the original timely post, but I went long anyway. There is still breathing room in the stock, and the internet angle will play itself out across the next two months. K Mart is large enough to build a web presence that gets recognition.

Also there is the unknown as to who will do the tie in. There are a few internet companies that might provide a welcome synergy with a large but weak discount retailer.

One more thing. Have you been in a K Mart lately? IMHO K Mart is becoming Wal Mart and Wal Mart is becoming K Mart. When Wal Mart came on the scene, K Mart was a disorganized mess. Boxes stacked in the isles. Unclean junky looking stores. WM builds new stores with large open isles and beats KM at their own game. Now, original WM stores are crowded and junky looking. They have expanded with SuperCenters after test marketing the concept in Arlington, Texas. KM has also expanded in the SuperCenter concept. WM is not executing the grocery half of the formula with any efficiency. It will drag the rest of the store's profits down. Why? Because the management in each store is WM discount store management with little if any knowledge of the problems in running a grocery. And try to check out in a hurry now at a Wal Mart SuperCenter! It seems that no one is supervising the front. The checkers are S.L.O.W. In fact they might even stop checking and start talking to a loitering friend while you wait. I've traveled across the mid South and find the problem is more common than WM would care to admit. K Mart is going to gain market share in these locations.

Also this and then I'll shut up. With the stock market in this phase of sideways redistribution, retail stocks are going to catch a lot of interest.

Good hunting,
HerbVic
