Habibe was the one who announced the Maleo project, I believe at a session of the legislature . Its only my opinion but I'm sure other agree, that the Maleo project would have been instrumental in launching the two stroke engine powered car. This project is on hold, and I understand that everything is in place such as material suppliers to restart the program. It's unfortunate that the timing for implementing the program occurred just as the Asian financial crisis exploded. It must have been a great let down for all concern. People must have worked long hours to get to the starting line. Indonesian workers lost out too because they were being trained to manufacture and service the car. Also, the Maleo would have provided a clean, cost efficient vehicle designed especially for the Asian market.
