See my posting Message 4545621 with attention to the CD-ROM/Audio price erosion and my summary at the bottom. DVD/Microsoft is helping but my take is (1) NMBS is spending on infrastructure for DVD [which pays off later but not now] and (2) price erosion on CDs accounts for decreased margins.

Are you thinking of other explanations?
