Restaurant news: Biggest restaurant in biggest mall

Jeremy Iggers / Star Tribune

Coming in June to the Mall of America is Cafe Oddysey, a high-concept,
17,000-square-foot eatertainment restaurant with seating for more than
400,
making it the biggest restaurant in the giant mall.

Decor will make use of recent entertainment technology, including
panoramic
video projections and "soft" ambient sound effects to create three
geographically themed dining areas: the African Serengeti plain, the
Incan
ruins of Machu Picchu in the Peruvian Andes, and the underwater ruins
of the
fabled lost city of Atlantis. The place is being designed by the
Cuningham
Group of Minneapolis, which also did the Rainforest Cafe. The menu will
feature "indigenous world cuisine ranging from Asian to Southwestern and
Caribbean to Cajun," as well as fusion dishes such as Asian tacos and
Barcelona spring rolls. Entrees will run from $5.95 to $18.95.

CafeOdyssey is being billed as the flagship restaurant of a
Bloomington-based
company that runs a similar restaurant in Cincinnati and has announced
plans
for another in Denver. The menu will be previewed tonight from 6 to 9
at Taste
of the Nation at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Tickets for that
hunger-
relief benefit are $50.
