Again, I Doubt One Should Interpret Anything Vis a Vis...

SEEK with regards to this Zapata deal. Zapata, if
its the same company that I think it is, has been
on a mission of late to revive two Web e-zine properties
(one called Charged, I think) and spin itself into a
fullf-fledged Web company.
Remember, this is the same Zapata that once was an oil
exploration and drilling
company founded by none other than George Bush. (I note
that only for trivia buffs... not as a way to establish
crediblity for a company that is VASTLY different from
what it once was.)

There is no lesson here for SEEK. I mean, when Time
Warner put an offer on the table (quietly, but a fact
nonetheless) for SEEK did that mean that XCIT sucked?
Nah... not even close.

Actually, I think this is a case--pure and simple--of
OUTRAGEOUS OFFER AS PUBLICITY VEHICLE. Zapata--and its
owner whose family at least is not unfamiliar with controversy--
got a lot of press today. Some of it derisive. But, as
they say, their name got spelled correctly.

And if, by chance, it was a serious offer--meant to be
taken seriously--well, all I can say is, maybe Zapata
should have taken a few steps back and surveyed the scene
before stepping up to this plate.

Best Regards,
