You're right. XYBR will crumble after the volume frenzy falls off. Datek won't let me short it, so the other brokers are probably the same way. My gut tells me that this won't be the ultimate techno-toy until you can surf at 28.8 with a cell phone connection. Fact is I only can connect at 9600 and rarely at 10800 with my Motorola Montana/MicroTac combination, so when I'm on the road with the notebook I'll send email only (with an occasional portfolio check also). Sure this is using the analog cell phone system, but the facts are that the digital cell network has got a long way to go before connect rates and area coverage is where it needs to be to operate in a totally wireless system. Now you could incorporate an Infrared connection between the XYBR unit and a plugin modem, but now you are packing more junk around with you and a carrying case. So, my feeling is no one is going to value this thing until you can surf hands free at a decent rate. Until then, I'll be carrying a modular phone cord with me so I can tap into a copper pair.
