Hi Jeff,
I'm very disappointed with the call... One analyst asked, with all the uncertainty over the next two quarters, why are you offering such specific forward guidance... Translated, that means "Limit your forward looking comments to positive statements like embedded computer design wins, still sole supplier of CPQ Options program, opening of Malaysian plant to reduce cost and offer logistic availability to current multinational customers, PC100 capabilities, Datacomm gains, increase in specialty vs standard memory products, etc. Answer the pointed questions with cautious optimism in an uncertain environment, which will become clearer with time."

The smart money figured it out with the news release on 5-7-98,
Smart (NASDAQ:SMOD) launches India design centre

"The design centre in Bangalore will undertake complete
design responsibility for many of the company's key product
lines, particularly in the design of embedded computers for a
wide range of electronic applications," Miller said.
"The company's focus is now on embedded computers. The market is substantially larger than the PC (personal computer)
market," he said.
