Intel inside means nothing in retail, part II
"We are looking to MediaGX and integrated system-on-a-chip processors to enable
lower-priced PCs and related devices,'' Ransom said. "In the last year, we've seen
the validation of the sub-$1,000 PC market, and we feel from a price-performance
standpoint, Cyrix gives us the features we need at a price to hit those segments and
still make money. Cyrix has come a long way in terms of quality, performance and
value.''

Cyrix said these moves, particularly business-oriented Windows Terminals, are a
steppingstone to getting more entrenched in the elusive corporate market. Swearingen
said Intel's grip has already been loosened up at retail, where buyers are less
brand-sensitive.

"Intel inside means nothing in retail,'' Swearingen said.
