Brad, I want to expand on one point you've made . . . that Fowler wants to get it right. I think you're exactly correct, for a couple of very good reasons: (1) He's an engineer, not a (upgrade it later) software type and, I think more importantly, (2) this is the strategy he is riding to success in the livescan market. IDX was not first to market in livescan, but it is winning because it is the best. It is almost certainly a very good strategy in intranets, ESPECIALLY if IDX is both "right" and "first."
On the other hand, "getting it right" rather than "first" may be a bit less important in the smart card bio-ID market, which is closer to a software mass market analogy. I.e., one in a thousand failures don't bring down a company, they just tick off one in a thousand customers. |
