So this guy is saying that nobody's going to buy NetWare anymore? Didn't these same people say that nobody would buy mainframes anymore? Instead of never buying them, they tried alternatives that didn't work and in the end were buying more than ever. After the "drought" of the mid-80's, mainframe sales are at their all-time high now. Turns out that Boeing couldn't manage their multi-million-record airplane control databases using SQL Server after all...

Multi-billion dollar busisnesses get that way for a reason: they offer value to their customers. If they have the ability to adapt to changing markets, then changing landscapes are great opportunities. All I see/hear out of Novell is good news in this regard.

IBM succeeded because they didn't give up their core expertise. DEC failed because they chose to become a support organization for a software company 1/20th their size. The ABSOLUTE WORST thing that could happen would be for Novell to orphan NetWare. Instead, they're building on it and trying to make it the best intranet server as well as the best general-purpose NOS.

I don't think Novell is dead because nobody wants NetWare (what this dork says), but instead will be in higher demand than ever when large orgs start trying to run enterprise-wide networks without it. We're already seeing this mind-shift occur a little bit. In the meantime, better positioning in the market would certainly make all of us happier.

So no worries about the long-term, but you must have the patience of Job, that's for sure. Anyway, sorry to see you leave us. Good luck with AOL. Wait for (more) bad news before you buy so you can get a better deal.
