Again looking at Smart Modular, they have this to say about earnings.

Smart Modular (SMOD) --UPDATE-- 21 5/8: Morgan Stanley downgrades from "outperform" to "neutral" following earnings report and warning after close on Thursday; lowers 1998 EPS from $1.37 to $1.09 a share..

Smart Modular Tech. (SMOD) 21 5/8 +1/8: manufacturer of personal computer card products & embedded processor modules reports Q2 net of $0.30 a share, in line with the First Call mean estimate. SMOD made $0.22 in the yr-ago period. Company says sees uncertain environment for next 2 qtrs; puts Q3 revenues at $155 mln and EPS at $0.19 (vs First Call estimate of $0.35); puts Q4 revenues at $180 mln and EPS at about $0.26 (no estimate available)...

If Morgan Stanley is near correct, the PE is 13.50 / 1.09 = 12.4 which seems to be a reasonable PE, but in fact I don't really understand the dynamics of this company.

Any thoughts on competition and SMOD's ability to add value and separate themselves from the competition?

Regards,

Mark
