At that point, Vasco da Gama had only to make contact with the territory and its king, to negotiate a commercial agreement with him and to establish a Portuguese trading post, if possible, in order to initiate trading in spices. Funny that is what they all said ! The fleet was also to be there to meet people of the Christian faith who, it was believed, resided in those latitudes.
