The Vet: I agree you should have been filled for whatever shares were available at the ask, but disagree your order to buy should have been listed as the bid.

The bid price is the price at which the MM's are willing to buy stock from those wishing to sell. The ask price is the price at which the MM's are willing to sell stock to those wishing to buy.

A retail limit order has nothing to do with where the MM's place the bid and the ask. For example, say you currently own 5,000 shares and put a limit sell at $20. Your sell order at $20 would have nothing to do with where the MM's put the bid and the ask.
