Gabriel,

An excellent report amidst dismal profit reports from the competition.

Meathead has pointed out that the ASP reductions was due to the end of life sales of the 66Mhz I/O bus based Pentium systems and that the transition to the 100MHZ I/O bus based systems is complete now. This may allow the ASP to return to the 2600 level. So there is room for a nickel's worth of surprise due to the latest Pentium-II based systems.

Incidently, I looked into a number of computer retail stores yesterday.
CPQ, HWP and Packard Bell were all low on inventory. IBM had the most inventory of Aptivas. There were units on display. I guess Win98, and the new Pentiums are next for retailers and they have to clear their old inventory to create shelf and inventory space.

I mentioned that my EPS estimate was high due to the lower than I expected ASP. Otherwise, I would have nailed the EPS.

Do you have any idea what the stock buyback is going to be?

Regards,

Jim Kelley
