Joe, The AMD K6 and the Cyrix M2 have both been optimized to run both 16-bit and 32-bit applications efficiently. The Pentium Pro only runs 32-bit Software efficiently and runs 16-bit code slower than the Pentium. That's where a lot of the "extra transistors" are being used and gives the consumers interesting choices.

Stay with Intel, get little performance inprovement with the Pentium Processor with MMX, junk your current PC and buy a new Klamath, or pop-out the old Pentium Chip and replace it with an AMD K6 or Cyrix M2 and get maybe twice the performance of your old Pentium Chip.

Intel's Marketing will be working overtime to sell "Intel Inside"! :-)
