Nathan , Intel investors continue to amaze me by their lack of vision . Up until the announcement of K6 ,every comparison given by the technical press has judged the complexity of a CPU by the number of transistors on a chip . This is a logical approach since designers do not haphazardly put more transistors on a chip without purpose . Now suddenly ,according to people like yourself , they are so inefficient in their design they need more transistors to get the same work done . What AMD has done according to EE times is produce a more sophisticated core which runs on a simpler and backward compatible bus . Why did they do this ? The reason is obvious , they have a more powerful processor than the pro which can be used on less expensive boards . AMD is also going to do a lot of business selling K6 to current users of Pentiums , where instead of buying a new Pentium Pro they can just drop in a K6 onto the board and get superior performance at ( especially on 16 bit software) much less cost , regards
