SEC's EDGAR filing system has technical problems
WASHINGTON, May 22 (Reuters) - The Securities and Exchange Commission's electronic filing system known as EDGAR shut down late Thursday evening due do technical problems but is expected to be working by next Tuesday, the SEC said on Friday.
EDGAR, or the Electronic Data Gathering Analysis and Retrieval System, ''continues to experience technical problems,'' the commission said in a statement.

The SEC gave no reason for the disruption but it expected EDGAR to be working by Tuesday following the federal holiday on Monday that will shut financial markets as well as as government agencies like the SEC.

Until then, those who need to file documents with the regulatory agency can still do so.

All filings made through the close of business on May 20 and nearly all filings made on May 21 are accessible but no filings received on May 22 are, the commission said.

''Please pardon any inconvenience this may cause ...,'' the statement said.

An SEC spokesman said that the EDGAR database located on the commission's website was still working but actual SEC filings listed on the EDGAR system are not.

That leaves only background information about EDGAR available to the public.
