Your story of the cigarette smoking reminds me of somehting that happened when my mother was dying. I had gotten her up to the bathroom and she fell. When I put her back in bed, I noticed her toe was turning black. I called the doctor. He was quiet for a minute, then he said, "Penni, your mother is dying of cancer, dehydration and starvation. I think a broken toe is pretty low on our list of things to worry about."
