NPD SofTrends Consumer Purchase Study captures household demographics, hardware ownership, and online usage. This latest study reports on software purchasing trends:

- Forty-four percent of U.S. households own a computer.

- Almost 60% of PC owners report spending less than $100 on computer software purchases in one year.

- The most important software purchase influences are price (19%), information on the back of the box (10%), and recommendation by a friend (9%).
