I couldn't sit and wait for T to do its thing. I just got rid of some 1800 shares because they were in my 401K and since I was once a retired AT&T employee but after retirement was forced to go with Lucent (I worked within AT&T Microelectronics which became part of LUCENT) I would have to get rid of them by the end of this year or have them switched to a money market fund...I only had the remainder of this year for the stock to do something...if it went down further I'd be forced out at the lower price because there wouldn't be enough year left for it to recover...I'm not that positive on T anymore...at least not sure of what it will do in the next 7 months...no sense waiting...I went into an index fund, an international fund (Western Europe, Scandinavian countries and English Isles), and a small amount into a GIF fund with those 1800 shares.

I must admit that I made out quite well after T finally started moving last April (1997). And of course I got all that Lucent and NCR which I converted to Lucent.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get out on that Friday before they announced earnings...I lost a lot on paper but I'm still way ahead of the game...and I still have some T shares in my 401K because I just didn't want to get out of it completely since I couldn't get back into it again...if it goes back to $65 then I'll get a little of that paper loss back again...

The Lucent was surprisingly the big winner in the breakup...what I should have done immediately after the breakup was completed and all stock issued was to convert everything that wasn't LUCENT to LUCENT.

As far as this market is concerned - I only see big money making any money...all the blue chips are going sideways...the $$$ boys push up a sector then sell it off and buy another sector and push that up then sell it off and they just keep doing it...first the airlines, then the autos, then techs...commissions must be great with all the churning going on...an individual investor can't keep up with them...

THE MARKET IS A PURE GAMBLE AT THIS TIME. The market technicians who chart every type of condition are saying that things are all moving in the wrong direction and that something should happen soon in a downward correction...how much? WHO KNOWS!
