Limtex, check out the "camera memory" listings at pricewatch.com and see that the VAST majority of the prices are for SNDK products. Then consider the fact that of what remains, virtually all are Smart Media cards. Then consider this earlier post:

Guys, I was looking thru the old press releases on the Sandisk site and found this interesting tidbit. I'm sure most of you have already read this but here goes anyway:

"On February 26, 1997 an Administrative Law Judge of the International Trade Commission (ITC) issued an initial determination which found that Samsung Corporation infringes claim 27 of the '338 patent in all its Nand flash memory products, including the Samsung 4Mbit, 16Mbit, 32Mbit and 64Mbit Nand chips and memory cards built with same."

This was released right before Samsung and Toshiba signed cross-licensing agreements with Sandisk.

Take note that it says "all its Nand flash memory products". We all know that SmartMedia is based on NAND gates so doesn't this mean that Sandisk is definitely getting royalties for SmartMedia sales?

Yes. Uh huh. You read it right. The word is "monopoly".

For all the warnings in SNDK's SEC reports, my quick search revealed ZERO flash memory cards being available from unlicensed competitors (aka Intel). And for all the noise made of the Intel-Kodak alliance, KODAK has recently taken to advertising cameras that REQUIRE SNDK memory.

If you wanted something nice to think on for the weekend, you have it.

Craig
