Mainly rumors of buyouts or new financing. Sometimes they are true, but most of the time they are not. Look at CREG. Company is bankrupt, but went from .01 / .03 to .15 / 17 on Thursday on a rumor of new financing. Now, I don't know if it was true or not, but it sure ran up over 400% BIG DOG
