Well, probably you have a different definition of "COMPETITION", then what
can I say!!!!
Why do you think NSCP do not have a way to compete ? it does, but NSCP choose
an easy way. Instead of competing with better products, and new innovation so that
consumers can't refuse its products, NSCP choose the way of crying to the DOJ to
order MSFT to sell NSCP's product. Is this what you called "COMPETITION" ?
Did NSCP have a way to distribute its products ? I think it does . Nowadays, the consumers can easily download the navigator from the net. Microsoft did not illeagally
forbid the consumers to download the navigator, it is the consumers' decision. So, the
rest of the competition is up to NSCP. If NSCP can develop a super product, I do not see the reason why consumers will turn down the free offer from NSCP. The problem is NSCP do not want to spend its time on developing better products, instead, it just want easy money , and easy way. This is the truth behind the screen.
It is not Microsoft who is afraid of competition, it is NSCP, who is afraid of competition in a normal way. This is the fact.
If you do not understand what is fair and real competition means, let me give you an example here. I think you still remember how AMD is competing with Intel in the CPU market. For years, when AMD had the 386, Intel released the 486, when AMD had the 486, Intel released the 586, when AMD had the 586, Intel released pentium with MMX, when AMD had k6, Intel released PII, and AMD never give up or go to DOJ, but continue to develop new technology and products to compete. Not untill
last year when the sub $1000 came to the market, AMD started to take market share
from INTEL, and INTEL's position of dominating the CPU market started to be degraded. That is what I call competition, and it is not an easy way.
You probably still remember IBM invented the PC and had a chance to be a high flier in the market, but it gave it up due to its wrong marketing strategy. Do you think IBM should cry to the DOJ ? I do not think so.
The Microsoft OS can be replaced over night if a new product hit the market tomorrow. Think about an OS of voice. you just said to the computer "save the file as
ABC", " Open a new excel file", ....etc, is this an easy way to operate the computer instead of click the mouse to find the file and wait for the window to be opened up ?
The problem is NSCP can not invent and innovate, that us why it fail and will dispear
from the market. However, there will be new startup with new innovation everyday
comming to the horizon. If Microsoft can not continue innovate and bring to the market with new products all the time, microsoft will be replace by new players in
the market sooner or later, this is just the characteristics of high tech industry. So,
who should you blame for your own failure ? yourself. Microsoft, or DOJ should not be responsible for NSCP's failure.
I do not think it is fair competition to ask one company to promote its competitor's
products. If the government wants to open up a high tech welfare service, it should ask DOJ to compensate NSCP the same amount of money for every copy of explorer or win98 is sold. In that case, NSCP can ly off all its employee, and just do nothing and wait the money coming back from DOJ everyday, and the NSCP market cap will
soon catch up with microsoft. That is the easiest way to grow the business for a company who do not to compete in the market with a fair and normal way !!! |
