SH-3-based RISC engine

Casio's new Cassiopeia HPC is priced under $500 and weighs less than a pound.

The device provides a 480x240-dot LCD display with a backlight, a pen touch-sensitive screen, easy-to-use keyboard, and a standard PC card expansion slot.

Optimized for the Windows CE platform, the CPU is based on the SH-3 processor, a Hitachi high-performance SuperH RISC engine.

Bundled business-oriented applications allow fax transmission, remote e-mail access, information service reception using a one-way pager, and wireless e-mail for use with a two-way pager. Casio QV Camera Connection software and a financial calculator are also included.

Available with 2MB or 4MB RAM, the unit has built-in RS232C, data communication jack, PC Card slot, and IrDA infrared port. The device can operate for up to 20 hours on two AA batteries.>
