I would not authorize taxing/spending by the government for social programs under any circumstance, ever. It does not constitute "common good" by my definition, but rather "good for some, bad for others".

The military is there for the common good, though its spending is certainly out of line.

Roads are a gray area. I think we are overdependent on automobiles, but I will concede taxes for roads. Not for public schools though. And not for any government intrusion into business or industry. Taxes for space exploration would be okay, but not essential.

So I think the sort of taxes I'd authorize would be considerably less than yours, but not nil. And lastly, the only fair tax is a flat tax, though a flat tax rate would be acceptable. I would even allow an exemption for those below a reasonable "poverty line".
