Andrew Vance Trader X and others,
I have been a lurker of this thread and an occasional poster on the other threads.
I really enjoy the stock recommendations and the coherent and that intelligent and sometimes philosophical debates on various subjects on this thread.
I could not help but read with great interest the debate about the creation of Israel ,Palestine and of course the test of nuclear devices by India.
Without boring everybody to death I would like to make certain observations.
History is only as true as the honesty of the person writing it. As mentioned by Trader X, the view of the mountain depends upon what angle you are looking at it from.
The human mind is such a complex mechanism that many times I cannot understand why I behave the way I behave, let alone me trying to understand why anybody else behaves the way they behave, what they think and why they think that. As far as the detonation of the nuclear devices by India is concerned my views are as follows
The Indian civilization is one of the oldest civilizations known to mankind. It dates back five thousand years. The Indian peninsula has been raped and plundered by just about everybody, the Moslems and the British and the mongols. It stands to reason that these people did not come to India because it was a poor country full of snake charmers and beggers. It was a wealthy country full of knowledge, rich in its heritage and culture very advanced in its sciences. It was turned into a land of beggers and snake charmers because of the Raiders and the plunderers who very shrewdly divided and ruled the people of India for almost ten centuries. People from India have traveled far and wide. In the 18 hundreds they went to Africa to South Africa to Kenya ,Uganda, Tanzania, Madagascar. They went to Australia, and Fiji, The South Americas and of course the started migrating to the United States of America in the 1900's and in large quantities in the 1960's.
In the African subcontinent there was a time when the Indians practically ran the countries of Tanzania Kenya and Uganda. The same was true in Fiji and in New Guinea. In the United States of America the Indians now have the highest per capita income as a group. In a short span the people who have migrated from India have become entrepreneurs, successful businessmen, scientists, Doctors , P. hd's , etc etc. In spite of everything, India has been always dumped upon by the United States government. Has always been called a third world country . I honestly don't know what the second world countries are. Just because Russia has the atomic device is called a first world country that is a joke. Talk about a fifth world country with an atomic device, as a result of which it qualifies as a first world country!!
India has a billion people just like China does but when China makes the slightest amount of noise America is running to please them. Why of course they have the nuclear device. All India wants is to be recognized as a major force in that part of the world, which has the infrastructure and whose people are highly educated and motivated as should be evidenced by the facts outlined above.
Human nature is very funny like somebody mentioned that America destroys or has destroyed more forest and more human lives than anybody can think of and now we are having a morality attack. I'm not saying that anything is right or wrong,I'm just making observations like some of the other people on this thread have made.
If Indians were a violent people they would not have gotten independence by non violent means. I have no doubt in my mind that India has no intention of using any nuclear devices on China or on Pakistan. After having argued with the Americans for decades and getting nowhere and getting nothing except lip service, finally a strong willed party came into power they made a statement. The statement is that India is a technologically advanced nation, and should be viewed as such. Why else would every technology company have huge establishments in India. Microsoft will be developing software in India. For the first time outside the USA. India has come a long way for a nation with 50 yrs of independence and such a diverse population.
We all know very well ,"The squeaky wheel gets the grease".
My parents and two of my siblings live in India. My two brothers are very successful businessmen in India, my father is a physician. Three of us live in the United States .
We are a family of American citizens and Indian citizens. We consider ourselves global citizens and as a family we strongly believe that it is only a matter of a generation or two before nationalism and geographic boundaries will be viewed as nothing more than nostalgic absurdities.
Telecommunication and international travel will bring about understanding on this planet and peaceful coexistence that heretofore has only been dreamed of.
Efficient use of energy will make it possible for everybodyto have everything they need.
Am I a dreamer? Perhaps. But I believe that anything that a human mind can conceive, humans are capable of doing.
I hope to be an active participant on this thread and exchange ideas about stocks and other investments. Thankyou for allowing me to participate.
