Settlement date is not the point if you bought the stock at 3:59 and it is in your account on May 29, 1998 you are a shareholder of record if a cash account is what it was purchased in . However the settlement date may only be correct if you buy on margin. I don't think you techinically own it. Margin players I believe are the except. But I do not know. But I will find out. GB
