Eric,

Microsoft's strategy of simply reacting to new products
and ideas, as they come to market, is the textbook way
to run a "market-leading" company. It is a sound and
proven containment strategy. As a market leader, it
would be unusual for Microsoft to take unnecessary
risks with unproven ideas.

In short, I wouldn't say Microsoft's seeming lack of
vision creates problems for their future success.
