Skeeter- In re: Hawaii<> That State has surely suffered from the Southeast Asian financial implosion. After all, as Captain Kirk has aptly mentioned, the Hawaiian economy depended mightily on Japanese tourism. The real estate industry also benefited in the past from Japanese buying sprees. However, as noted in a past "Forbes Magazine" article, Hawaii is a State which apparently suffers from the profligate, wanton, and anti- business policies of a trademark liberal "tax and spend" State government. As a consequence, Hawaiians are saddled with onerous taxes, recklessly high per capita social welfare spend- ing, a strangulating business environment, and, not surprisingly, decades old one party Democrat domination. Indeed, during this latest lengthy powerful US economic expansion, Hawaii has consistently recorded the nation's highest unemployment rates, according to "Forbes," the mainland boom and Japanese tourist/ real estate dollars notwithstanding. |
