Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Teledesic a one-way system? That is, unless you can afford a transmitter powerful enough to reach the satellite from your home, you will still need a phone line or cable for the return channel to the nearest transmitter. This transmitter will communicate your request to the bird which will send the web pages you want to view. As long as the Bells/ISPs must provide this necessary link to the bird seems like they are still in a very powerful position.
