DAvid and All:
Just ran across this news article. Could have a good or troublesome impact on Ballard's competitive position.

Tokyo, Japan - The Nagoya Institute of Technology has announced the development of a glass material that could provide a breakthrough for fuel cells, reports Nikkei America. The glass is both durable and a good conductor of hydrogen ions, a combination that makes it an interesting alternative for use in future fuel cells. Previous efforts to develop a glass material conductive to hydrogen have resulted in a material that dissolves when exposed to water. The new material is as durable as window glass but is 100 million times more conductive to hydrogen ions. Solid polymers are being developed for fuel cells, but the organic materials currently in use do not handle high temperatures well. The new material could be used in place of the polymer in polymer electrolyte, or proton exchange membrane (PEM), fuel cells.

Anyone familiar with this stuff???

Bill
