The cable modem itself is manufactured (as per the label) by LanCity). The local cable TV operator is offering this service. In a nutshell the advantages to the cable modem includes:

There are no telephone charges or lines to tie up.
There are no busy signals.
The system can be kept on line to the internet 24 hours a day.
It's 200 times faster then a 56 K Modem ( I downloaded a 9 MB file in about 30 seconds.
Total cost is $19.00 / month. Add $10.00 / month for the cable modem rental itself ( or you can buy the modem for about $500. You do need an ethernet card.

If it is available in your area, I would recomend it.
