Jeff, these downgrades are just news. I have a contrarian strategy, as long as either I really know the company or I have at least one analyst agreeing with me.
Example: bought a lot of ADCT when it went from 28 to 17. 5 or 6 houses downgraded it, but First Boston (the great) kept a buy rating with a $35 target. Although I sold way too early, still did really great.
Another example is SMOD: Donanldson Lufkin Jenrette issued a report Friday calling for a target of 22-25 in 12 mos.
Valuation numbers with the stock at 14 are excellent.
There is always risk, but I felt comfortable to buy at these levels. Of course we are all hoping that this major slowdown in the industry will at some point reverse,
best regards
Alfredo
