Bundling

The Windows monopoly is inherently beneficial to software developers insofar as they need only master a single set of services from a single vendor. Having said that, I consider Windows to be an incoherent morass which is easy prey for superior technologies such as Java. As for Bill Gates nonsensical assertion that they are responding to customer demands for innovation I would submit the following: There are few if any applications which could not benefit from an integrated spelling checker, that is, a operating system service that programers could leverage directly from their own applications. That crashingly obvious functionality is not provided because it would have a direct and indirect impact on sales of Microsoft Office.
