Skipper, I took those fairly negative descriptions of Ayn Rand directly from the url you posted, which I assumed was generally favorable to her, since you chose to share it here. Did I miss something? Obviously, it is pretty common to screw up totally in the romance/relationship department. However, if she is going to lead a philosophical movement, it seems relevant to study her influences.
The ever-present economic incentives to take shortcuts, and the pervasive mentality of being willing to borrow against the future, are two impulses the business community seems to have that I believe are excellent examples of why a mixed economic system including regulation by government is a good idea. If disincentives to act in this short-sighted manner are legislated, then maybe the environment can be saved after all.
As far as things like paper, glass, tin, aluminum, etc., we are already recycling these items. I was happy to discover today a place I can order really nicely designed checks made with 100% recycled paper. And of course you know I love hemp!!! Since it can be made into paper, fuel, and hundreds of other things, maybe it will preserve the earth. |
