Skipper, I agree with you that the way we are taxed could use a great big overhaul. In fact, I wonder if there is anyone at all who thinks the taxation system we have is working--I doubt it. Where the two of us disagree is on social programs. I know that the food banks are empty and begging for more contributions, because private charities are now trying to help people whose welfare benefits have been cut off, and they are unable to feed everyone who is hungry. Several months ago, church leaders went to the president to inform him that there was no way they could fill the gap; I don't believe privatization of charity works except in a very incomplete and haphazard manner. Do you believe that in a society as wealthy as ours, that it is okay that people don't have enough to eat?
