Paul, The only person's motives I belittle is yours, because you present partial argument that you know the whole story about for what I believe is your personal gain. Is that mud!

You want to tell everyone on this thread, that the AMD K6 contains more transistors than the Pentium Pro and that relates to costs. That's real misleading! The Pentium Pro has 5.5 million transistors in the CPU Chip, is fabricated on the .35 micron process and occupies 304 sq.mm. The 256K L2 cache is fabricated on a 0.6 micron process, uses 15.5 million transistors and occupies 242 sq.mm. The 512K L2 cache uses 31.0 million transistors is fabricated on the 0.35 micron process and occupies 202 sq.mm. The Intel cost is the sum of both chips and the additional cost of the more complex dual-cavity package. The AMD K6 chip has over 8 million transistors is fabricated on the 0.35 micron process and occupies 151 sq.mm (I think).

Which will be less costly?

Bob
