Skipper, world hunger is definitely an important issue to many people, but to me it is really easy to get bogged down by taking on such a huge problem. There are corrupt governments, for example, which confiscate food and medical supplies sent by richer nations to feed their hungry, and then sell them for profit. I am not sure how you would solve such complex problems simply with the (admittedly substantial) amount you have paid in taxes being returned to you.
Do you have airplanes, helicopters, squadrons of troops, a medical unit, and satellite surveillance systems at your command? Really, some of these things are a little complicated for individuals to solve, no matter what their financial resources may be. That is why governments have a legitimate role to play.
Anyway, once we solve the hunger problem in America, it would be very appropriate to tackle it on a larger scale. I think it would be really helpful to start by paying the back dues we own to the U.N. We are going to lose our seat on the Security Council if they are not paid soon, according to the U.N. charter. Somehow I suspect this may not be one of your favorite organizations, however. |
