It is more relevant what you do now. There will always be more favorable circumstances under which you might conceivably exist. As for philanthropy (dispensing or receiving aid for humanitarian purposes) not beginning at home, what I mean is, that it is natural and relatively easy to give to one's own, and I do not think one can really call it humanitarian to supply one's own family. True effort is required, imo, to go out into the world and give to others who may or may not ever return the favor. My reason for doing such work is that I feel it is humanitarian, and leads to a happier society, and thus, indirectly, my payback is in the form of a better place to live.
And proof is a silly thing to ask for in an argument such as this. You cannot provide proof for your assertion, nor can I for mine. I think I am right, and that you are rather more selfish than you should be. You, no doubt, feel that I am wrong and waste my time and like to waste my tax money. |
