Hi Jeff, sorry this one took a while. Got lost there on the TA thread the other night and then forgot.

What you describe is exactly what happens to me. It doesn't freeze the entire machine I can use other programs. But I just can't close PCQuote or do anything else with it. I can't even minimize it. I haven't learned how to create that little takbar for Win95 ;). I used to have it up with win3.1 but I just loaded 95 and didn't read anything about it. So I am learning things 'when I am forced to'. Believe it or not, PCQuote sent me their tiny manual 2 weeks ago and I haven't touched the cover yet. Go figure!

I had tried your suggestion with MSG_APP. It works to some extent and then it refuses to go further. I guess there is a limit. But as you say, enough of the message is available to figure out what's up.

I am running Win95 on a Gateway 120 P5-120XL with only 16 meg of memory. I should buy some memory soon. But I am too lazy to open the machine up again. But will have to do it... I manage to have PCQuote, a couple of browser windows & mail going at the same time. What I find most difficult is working with a single monitor. Need to get another one of those too, but the problem is space.

Here is what a friend sent me on Friday when I was complaining about the problems. Take care. Techie

Bob, Techie - "ping" means to send a number of information packets out
to a server to see how fast the return time is... when the designated
name server (DNS) is not functioning - i.e. the server is off-line, you get a dead message back. This could be the SI server, a power failure, a loacal area failure - hard to tell. You can do a traceroute ng.

And there is a major problem in Bakersfield's netcom connection - so
looks like a good part of Ca. may be having problems too.
