Democracies do not have the right, nor should they have the power, to subvert the intrinsic rights -- including property rights -- of the individuals in the democracy. This was one point agreed to unanimously by the signers of the Declaration of Independence. (You will note they did not sign the Declaration of Dependence.)

America is also a Republic -- or at least it used to be.

And your ideas of how a democracy should operate scare me. According to your vision, if enough people vote "yea" it would then be perfectly legal and moral for me to be deprived of my businesses, my home and all other properties, including automobiles, stock portfolios, international investments, etc. Right?
