You are right, Terrence. I looked back, and you referred to being tried for murder, not executed.
This society makes it very, very difficult to be on a jury. Endless waits, significant discomfort, remuneration of only $5.00 a day in some places, and horrendous bureaucratic red tape are daunting, even to people who want to do their civic duty. Unfortunately, the second time they are called, many of our most intelligent potential jurors figure out a way not to serve.
Unfortunately, that leaves people who are retired, bored, on fixed incomes, and easily titillated as the majority of the jury pool. In some ways, a brain drain has taken place, obviously. |
